How To Buy Rugs / Carpet And Furniture – Nice And Affordable .?
I am new here in Virginia Fairfax county and have rented an apartment. I have to furnish it with wall to wall carpet or Area rugs and with furnitures – dining table (4 chairs), bed, mattress, sofa and coffee table. I am in Falls Church and recently came in US, so no idea of the good stores/bargain shops etc. My budget is tight so have to go for low cost items but DECENT.

This is the time of year to search the Salvation Army, the GoodWill and thrift stores for home furnishings. People donate/consign their belongings to these establishments this time of year as they buy new furniture for the holidays. You can find some pretty nice pieces. Remember, just look at the lines and the construction. Paint can transform any piece of furniture and a simple change in hardware does wonders.
Craigslist.com is a website where you can locate just about anything within your specific area. People are giving away things or selling them very cheaply on this web site. You have to check it out regularly because items come and go at an alarming rate because it is so popular.
Tag sales, garage sales, yard sales are all a great source for rugs and other home furnishings. Check you local paper, go with cash ($1.00’s, $5.00’s and $10.00’s) and remember, everything is negotiable.
Ask new acquaintances about local shops in your area that have bargain prices. Heck, most people have unused furniture stored in their basement, attics and garages. Get the word out that you are furnishing an apartment from scratch. You would be surprised what will come your way.
Remember, anything can be spray painted and transformed to fit into your decor. Have fun and remember, don’t just buy something because it is a good price or you will end up with a bunch of stuff you don’t like in the end.

Salvation army can help you locate houses that are being deconstructed, if they don’t already have the items you require. Maybe turn the apartment into a chinese way of life and simply put pillows in each room, because it is more fun and less money.

Check http://www.craigslist.org and look in the furniture section. It might take some searching through the listings, but you can find cheap stuff that people need to get rid of.. especially now towards the end of the month when people need to move. Good luck!
