How Do I Get Rid Of Cat Urine Smell In My Carpet?

We just bought this house. The previous owners had a cat. I smell cat urine. I have an extractor carpet cleaner. Is there a product I can add to the rug shampoo solution that will kill the urine smell?
The trouble is, the carpets are top quality and practically new. I hate to yank them out. What can I do to remove the offensive odour?

You might have to replace the carpet pad because no carpet cleaner can get the smell out of pad under the carpet. Urine eliminators can treat the surface but the smell will be in the carpet backing as well.
If the carpet is really worth saving then i’d clean the he!! out of the carpet with a urine eliminator making sure as much water is removed as possible. Let it completely dry (several days) then have the pad replaced.
The reason to do it that way is you don’t want urine water going down into brand new pad..

There is a fantastic product called Clean + Green that is amazing and has removed stud cat urine spray smells from our cattery.
We tried everything and nothing worked. This company’s product is easy to use and worked brilliantly. Absolutely no smell is left. We neutered the male that sprayed and then had to clean up his mess. I had grave concerns that any residue would encourage my other males to start spraying too.
This product got it out of both hard surfaces and upholstery/carpeting. They have special formulas just for carpeting. It bonds with the molecules of the urine and eliminates them. Quite fascinating to read about it.
It comes in an easy to use spray can that applies just what you need without excess waste or moisture.
The added bonus is the stuff is totally eco-friendly and non-toxic. Safe to use around animals, even young kittens and our toddler.
I wrote a review for it after we used it in our cattery and you are welcome to read it. The link is below.
    Good luck!

Visit a pet shop. You can buy odor eliminators for pet urine.
