How Do You Get Cats From Scratching Carpet?
Two years ago my family moved into a house with carpet flooring, from a wooden floor one. The cats think that the carpet is a scratching post and the corners of the stairs are ripped really bad. We’ve tried aluminum foil on the edges but it hasn’t worked. How do you get cats from scratching the carpet on stairs??

First get a spray and fill it with ice cold water and every time it starts scratching the carpet spray it and it should stop. The cat will know that everytime it scratches it will get shot with cold water.

Trim their claws. My cat used to scratch up all the furniture. Then someone told me to trim his claws regularly, and since then he’s never scratched up anything. You’d have to do it fairly regularly, and it might be hard at first. You can ask a vet to do it for you the first time, and teach you the right technique. It’s worth it, though.

They have these caps that you can buy and put them on their claws so you don’t have to worry about them scratching everything up so not only do you not have to worry about the trimming but your stuff will not get all scratched up.

citrus – make a mild citrus spray and spray the cats with it when they do it, put some on the spots they scratch.
also get a scratch post and put it near by – so they learn to use that

sometimes pets (and kids!) make you feel like you can’t have anything nice… check out this article on pet-proofing your carpet.http://www.rugrag.com/post/ORPs-(Orienta…

Give them a tall 6′ carpeted scratching post. When they go to scratch the carpet, gently take them to their new post. I rub mine with catnip to entice them.
