What Color Would You Paint The Walls If You Have Dark Purple Carpet?

My kids share a room. It was orignally setup for a girl. I just had a baby boy I’m trying to convert it for both of them. Right now it has dark purple carpet and light purple walls with white trim. I would like to make it a little more boy and girlish verses girly. Any ideas? Also I want to keep the carpet.

I don’t really think any colors would go well with dark purple. But I a green/olive colored carpet would match well

I would go with something with a yellowish tint to it…or just a light or medium yellow because yellow is the complimentary color to purple. Besides yellow is a gender neutral color unlike pink, purple and blue.
Complimentary colors are colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel…they also balance each other out while bringing out the true hue of each other. You can also mix them to get a darker shade of each each other…but I will not get into that.
Split compliments are colors that are on each side of the compliment…you can use split compliments to add more dimension to the purple without throwing it off balance. I added a website of an interactive color wheel …to use click on the color closest to the purple then select complimentary, split complimentary, analogous (which is colors that are in the same color range such as reds and blues for purple) then look there are different shades of each color, the closer a color is to the middle of the wheel…the darker the shade…then pick the corresponding color in the same shade position from the middle and you have the matching color.

    Look to your color wheel!
If you balance the colors in the room, it will be less gender specific.
Purple and Yellow are opposites and complementary.
Purple, Green and Orange from a triad.
There are other color combos you can use that will work, as defined by your color wheel that I won’t go in to here.
I’m not suggesting Brights in those colors for the walls, although you could do an accent wall. With a dark carpet, I’d keep the walls fairly light so it’s not a cave – the accent wall is usually a little darker. I’d use a white or very light that “shades” into one of those colors…you’ve probably noticed an AMAZING and rather confusing range of whites at the paint store.
The complementary colors can also be brought into the space through soft furnishings in brighter tones, that are easier to change out than paint or carpet.
Thank goodness you’re starting with purple rather than blue or pink!

A light cream color would be best, and as other people have mentioned, to enhance the effect add some additional features by choosing appropriate decor. Curtains: also light cream. Picture frame with gold metal frame would be tasteful. Don’t add too much furniture; the less the better. This color is very dominant. Any furniture should match as a set (not of different designs or colors). A light blue bedspread for your son, a pretty yellow bedspread for your daughter. The trim on the walls could be done in a double strength of the wall colour (baseboards, window frames etc.).
Hope this helps. Welcome to message me.

light purple =P … blue, white, grey, brown/tan/beige, black… I wouldn’t do green because it’s too barney the dinosaur, and I wouldn’t do yellow or orange, because that is the opposite of purple and it would look “busy” and opposite colors stress your eyes and “causes anxiety” (or something like that =P) I wouldn’t do red either, don’t know why on that one… (just don’t like red I guess =P) Pink would be girly… Purple isn’t really a “girly color” anymore, I think that the only color that has gained and retained full “girly status” is pink.

Hello Lady, go to a paint store and there they have a chart that show the colors they have. Pick up a few of the colors tabs you like and take them home and look at them on your wall. You can get a pretty good idea of what color you will want. For your purple carpet, have you thought of a cream color,or an off white, , then you could add a picture or two on the wall, like a picture of a horse or horses, butter flies or even pictures of the children.. Look in magzines for pictures of different ones. Or even make a small hanging quilt to hang on the wall. That would change the roon for the little boy and girl. If it was me painting the wall I would not try to blend the painted wall to the carpet. That is a hard thing to do. I would say go for the
cream color walls with dark purple carpet. Look for pictures that you can fram your self. Oh i think I would paint the wood work in the bedroom the same color as the wall, if you paint it with the cream color. /what do you say? I hope I have given you some new good thought on what you want to do for the children’s bedroom. Have fun looking and finding things.
    Just a friend. P.C.

we had a dark purple carpet (looked like Welch’s grape jelly!) this is what we did:
Painted the walls white then we splattered them. The colors we used were, red, green, yellow, orange, blue. (we used a couple of shades of blue and green)
At the time we did this, Scooby Do was what the kids liked, so we got a border with Scooby that had these colors in it. The room was sharp and we had many compliments on it. A lot of people thought it was wallpaper until they realized the pattern didn’t repeat!
If you do this, be sure to protect your carpet well, put plastic over the windows, doors and protect all the trim. This way the room has a professional look to it. I have seen rooms splattered that the trim and doors were hit to, they looked “messy”.
here’s a link on the procedure if you choose to do this:
    http://www.ehow.com/how_4674820_splatter-pain…
***I do not recommend the “balloon method”, way to messy.

Add some blue. Pale blue, and other shades of blue go well with lavender and purple. Make the lavender more for the girl…where she can add some pink accessories, or yellow, etc….and the Boy can add some more masculine touches to his area…yet will all blend together.
Or you could make the whole thing fit for both a boy or a girl by using general primary colors that go with the purple…could be gold, or a light green, yellow, etc….that works for them both….and give them more masculine or feminine room later when they are older. Either works.
For example…you could use a Disney theme for both of them….or a jungle theme…etc….

i think a pale blue would be a good idea,
or just a nice white :) but i think that only looks good if you have white furniture, or furniture that would match
:) hope that helped, and someone else said yellow, but honeslty, i think that would look terrible,
and green i think would make it look girly aswell,
so i think blue is the best way to go :)

    Hmmmm… Try for UniSex Colours!
yellow and green and unisex baby colours but still keep in mind that your son is small. don’t do dull colours because they are boring and well, my little brother started crying when he first slept in the dull coloured room in my house!
Go Bright! try primary colours and thats because both boys and irls like them!
decide on a theme! how about some medium colours ? not to bright not to dull? this is what we done: painted the middle of the wall yellow, bottom of it red and the top blue!we just added some removeable stickers onto the walls !
    just go unisex!

If your a skilled enough painter, I would paint the walls with dark blue and purple stripes. You can also put a rug over the carpet to incorporate the blues into the room. If you cant do stripes, paint the walls white and paint one wall blue and one wall purple (same color as the carpet.) I hope this helps!

I think purple goes best with either a lighter version of purple or a cream color, also there are shades of blue that compliment purple however since you have a dark purple color I would ask a person who actually mixes paints what they would suggest. Such as someone at home depot or Lowes.

Well colours that match dark purple are: yellow, red, pink, hot pink, magenta, beige, white. And if you want to make it really unique try turquoise or any shades of green.
However, if this was my case, I would use light yellow (kind of like cream colour) or beige.

Change the walls’ color to light green. If the carpet is bright, make the walls bright. If the carpet isn’t bright, don’t choose lime green. Choose a green that has the same brightness as the carpet.

You can keep one or 2 of the walls light purple and paint the other 2 another color.https://www.sherwin-williams.com/visuali…

gray. a pretty gray though. My bedroom is gray and it suites my husband and i. You can also get a nice boyish area rug to match and put in front of crib.

Gray canvas — with midnight blue(or maybe seafoam green?) and purple accents — and perhaps some white to lighten it up
…but definately gray for the majority — gray and purple look great together…

bright green with dark furniture….but i would move and not paint anythin because a boy and a girl sharing a room? they are NOT going to be happy about that when they get older….so i wouldn’t do anything, just move.

U may want the following textures:
    Warm – red
    Cold- blue
    Bright- white/ cream
Don’t use gold or yellow because they are to old and were used in the 80’s :D

I would just go with simple white, it would make the room look more open, simple and modern any other color would probably ruin it, up to you though ;)

i would stay in the neutral range from browns to grays…
if you really want color, you could also get away with shades of green. or, use green as accents with the neutral colors!
    good luck!

Try painting the walls orange. Orange and dark purple go together and will help the room look more masculine. If you really want to get colorful, try painting the trim lime green.

I would just paint the walls cream, and then you can add colour with accessories.

I would go with a medium or forest green. The contrast will look neat and the kids will love it.

Paint then top half of the walls pink and the bottom half blue, put a very large cream colour rug over the purple carpet so nearly all of it is covered.
