Why Are Bathroom Rugs Not Be Used Near The Toilet?
I just watched a decorating show that said it was very old fashioned to use rugs in the bathroom near the toilet. I did not understand what is wrong with this. My toilet is very close to my shower and I don’t like to step out on a bare floor. What do you think?

They can go straight to Decorator’s Hell!
I LIKE the feeling of carpet under my bare feet if I need to use the loo in the middle of the night.
This is a good example of how fashion can conflict with comfort – I always defer to comfort over appearance.

I agree with the first poster as to why you don’t use them, but frankly we have rugs in both our bathrooms (they’re VERY small spaces so there’s no way to avoid it in front of the toilet). BUT, we also wash our rugs once every 2 weeks…even in the bathroom that gets almost no traffic. We just don’t want them being dirty and gross (nevermind the “loo” smell).

I saw that show too a few months ago. I do think it looks a little trailer trash or like grandma’s house. Just put a mat in front of the shower. Don’t use toilet rugs, so outdated. Fashion just changes, this is one of those.

I didn’t see the show you’re referring to, but I image that carpets in that area would be major germ-catchers.

Just a trend. Once, everyone had them.
I think it’s because guys piss all over them (kids, alcoholoics, etc.) and they start to smell.

many men miss the bowl and your carpet will smell like a public loo
