In Say Th, 16 Or 17 Hundreds. How Did Servants Clean The Rugs In The Czar’s Palace To Get Them Clean?

I have a hard time with the rugs in my house using modern methods, I scrub alot of stains by hand and it’s really alot of work. Then I steam vac it and let it dry or I have a service do it. But what about in the time of the czars. How did the servants get it clean, what materials did they use and what kind of cleaners? Did they get beheaded for doing a bad job? jk :)

“Clean” was a suggestion in those times. Usually twice a year the rugs got taken out and pounded with a rug beater to get the dust out. Stains they just used water on.

Most of the time in those days people did not pay attention to cleanliness. In fact. they only bathed once or so a year. If they cleaned them at all, they probably beat them.

They hung the rugs over lines and beat them with sticks to get the loose dirt and dust out. As for stains, they probably steamed them over boiling water, and scrubbed.
