At a party last night at my place someone knocked a cigarette off the ashtray and it layed on my carpet til it burnt itself out. Now I have a 2 1/2 inch burn in my carpet. I have leftovers of the same and was curious if i can repair the carpet so its not so obvioius. Its right in the middle of my living room floor.

You could try cutting out the burned section, and replace it with a matching carpet patch.
of course, if you have a thicker carpet pile, it will look less obvious than if u had a carpet with a flat pile.
if this is not an option, you could move some furnature a little bit and cover it up.

This will work if it’s done right…Take small cuttings from the carpet somewhere in the corner or a place where it doesn’t show, just keep cutting clippings here and there and put some glue on the burn area and immediately add the carpet clippings and arrange them to where it looks somewhat natural and blow dry it and try not to let people walk on it for a while-I’ve done it and it works! P.S Smooth out the burn area first removing any ashes and just brush the area before adding the glue and carpet pieces.

    davehale,
Even if you have short carpet, you can still manage to find extra little peices of carpet especially around where door’s are, or in corners… Just take a snip here, and a snip there, put it in a baggy until it looks like enough to fill in the hole….Go and get you a glue gun, and some glue sticks, which should only cost you under $10.00-$15.00 bucks, for the gun and sticks…..at any department store….. Take the bundled up stuff, after your glue gun is hot, and have it ready to go into the hole, unplug your gun while its hot, and run over to spot shoot some glue in ther area, and then quickly place the pieces of carpet you collected and fill in the hole!! It’s that easy!! Your SAFE, dont you worry!!! And it’s so easy to do, to!! I have 2 ferrets, and have had to do this myself with short carpet!! It does work, and doesn’t look fake or fixed either! Promise you!! Good Luck!! You deserve a STAR for very interesting!!! Smile!!!

If its shag or longer carpet you can take scissors and cut the top of the carpet off and cut the surrounding area down a bit and try to blend it in. If its burber or short carpet if you have a scrap piece you can glue a new piece in but I wouldn’t recommend you do this as a rookie. If you call a carpet cleaning company they often do these type of repairs.

    Things You’ll Need:
    Clear Household Glues
    Scissors
    Sandpaper
Step1: Cut or sand away the burned ends of the carpet fibers. Cut fibers will simply blend in if they’re only slightly shorter than the surrounding carpet.
Step2; Cut some carpet fibers from an inconspicuous portion of carpet elsewhere in the room or from a matching carpet remnant and attach them to the cut fibers using household glue, if the remaining fibers are noticeably shorter than the surrounding carpet.
