How Do I Get Dog Urine Smell Out Of Carpet?
My dog peed on a good throw carpet of mine, but I didn’t notice till a few days later due to a lack of a stain. How should I clean it and especially get that nasty smell out.

You can buy a good enzyme cleaner or one for bacteriological odors. Follow with steam cleaning. All should be good

Pop into your local pet store. They should have some products that will do the job. Nature’s Miracle is on brand of products for such things.
Or if you can find it, use some Odo-ban. It’s a plant based cleaner with enzymes to remove nasty smells. I’ve used it several times with good results. We had a couple pet accidents and it worked great on those. Then we had a pipe leaking (and didn’t know it because it was behind a couch) in our hot water base board radiators and it worked great on the musty, mildew smell there.
I will warn you, it is on the overpowering side when you first use it. Not that the fumes will hurt you but it’s pretty strong. So good ventilation is a good idea. Read the directions on the bottle. For anything like pet accidents, I spray the area down pretty heavy and let the solution work for 15-30 minutes. The enzymes have to get to the problem and that’s down in the carpet. Then I get my carpet shampoo machine and suck up everything and give it a good rinse. Help the area dry by keeping a fan on it so you don’t get a mold or mildew problem.
Or if the throw carpet is machine washable, then put it in the washer with warm water, the normal dose of laundry detergent and about 1/2 cup of washing soda. The soda boosts the effectiveness of the laundry detergent and helps break down the dirt. I wouldn’t put the rug in the dryer, the heat is too much for them but hang it outside or spread it out in the sunshine to dry.

On a humid day, does your house smell like a zoo? Why spend big bucks on carpet cleaning, and enzymatic cleaners when trying to remove pet urine smells from carpet?
Mix one gallon of white vinegar with one gallon of water. Pour it straight on the area with urine and let is soak the carpet, pad, and sub floor. After letting it sit for about 30 minutes, use a carpet machine to pull out as much solution as you can. Your house may smell like vinegar for a few days, but it will dissipate over time. The vinegar neutralizes the urine smell and your house will smell so clean. Enzymatic cleaners cost approximately $12 – $15 per 8oz. 1 gallon of vinegar is $2.50. What a savings and just as effective

There are two ways to take care of it:
1) Go to your local pet store and get “urine out” remover spray, or,
2) get a professional carpet cleaner to come out, pull up the carpet, and the padding, clean it, seal it (the floor) and place the padding and carpet back, with professional cleaning done in that area.

At pet stores they sell a natural cleaner. These are great because if there is any sort of scent left behind the dog will just be encouraged to go in that spot again.
You could also use rubbing alcohol, vinegar, windex, or oxyclean. Be sure not to RUB the stain with anything because you will only spread the odor. Blot everything up.
If you have a steam cleaner you can buy a special solution for pet stains and odors, but I would also use one of the products listed about after the rug has dried.
Good luck!

Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck!

I would try this odor absorbent powder by D-Vour. It will help conceal and deodorize spills and orders of many forms. It’s handy to have around the house, because you don’t know when the next accident may happen. http://www.toiletpaperworld.com/product.…

Hope this helps!

You could take some vinegar to a sponge and apply it directly to affected area. The vinegar will absorb the odor. After doing that, you can begin to clean with a damp cloth of warm soap and water.
