What Would Happen If You Put Wood Flooring On Top Of Carpet?
We have carpeting on our stairs, And the **** is glued down good! What would happen if we took 1×10 and nailed them down really good over the carpet or do we got to tear all the stairs out and completely re due them? The carpet of what I have seen is only about 3/8 in. thick and no carpet pad underneath.

Won’t work!! The carpet will mold and the wood will warp. You need to lay it on a clean surface. Go to a carpet dealer and he can suggest something to help remove carpet. Good Luck!!!!

There’s a chance your 1×10 will break since it didn’t stay in a hard surface.Try this trick to pull out those glued carpet use a goof off or thinner soak the carpet then leave it atleast 10 minutes for thinner and 3 to 5 minutes for goof off then start pulling the carpet. Most carpet installer use only a rubber cement glue and this type of glue will loosen by either paint thinner or the goof off.Good luck…..

If it was me, I would try really hard to get the carpet up before putting down wood. I think that if you have wood pannels on top of carpet, they’re gonna squeak because the carpet below them is going to give a little when you step. I’m not an expert though.
either way, I think with enough effort, you should be able to get the carpet up.

I can tell you, because I made the mistake of putting laminate over carpet padding in one room.
You would get a REALLY weird sensation every time you stepped on the wood and it sank. Its not good.
Take the time and effort to scrape the carpet off.

If you want your wood flooring to last you’re going to have to bite the bullet and get all the old stuff out. You need a clean surface to lay the wood on.
Grab some scrapers and get scrapping, sorry.
