Carpet More Expensive Than Hardwood On New Home?

Generally speaking, is it more expensive to install hardwood flooring on a new construction project when the builder offers carpet as the first option for bedroom and living room? I want to go Oak hardwood instead of the carpet. Anybody have an idea on the difference per square foot I’d be looking at?

Hardwood will be considerably more expensive then carpet, though the price difference will depend on what budget the builder put in for carpet in the first place. I’d plan on doubling your flooring budget (at least) to go to hardwood. Much better choice in the long run though.
Don’t try to make a judgement based solely on the price per foot of the products – hardwood installation is more expensive. For instance where I live (and work as a hardwood installer) – we get $2.25/foot for installing pre-finished hardwood whereas carpet installation is $4.50/yard (9 sq. ft)

Both of the examples that I looked at were around $4 per square foot. I looked at Oak flooring and carpet per square foot. You can get cheaper carpet, but a good quality hardwood floor won’t get much less expensive.

Labor cost more per square foot and can vary from area to area in US + corners installation cost
    Type of installations etc…
It actually rest on the flooring specialist..(Sight seen)
Better investment wood flooring. Quality flooring cost.
Useless to do it cheap either one.
