How Do I Get My Landlord To Install New Carpet?

when I moved in 2 years ago, the carpet was already bad off and he said he’ll look into it in 6months (after making sure the dog is housebroken…which he is). We are now 2 years later and I have discovered that the carpet hasn’t actually been changed since 2 tenants ago!! Thats about 5-6 years! I don’t want him to raise the rent but I do keep the apartment up nicely and have done some landscaping at my own expense. do I have a chance at new carpet?

You should kindly point out that the carpet is becoming worn out and that you think that’s so because he’s had it for such a long time. Then kindly offer him some carpet installers he should consider hiring. Tell him it would be great since Fall is coming and he can get it out of the way before Winter comes. That carpet is really old….My boyfriend installs carpet here in Chicago. Hope this helped!

I would say contact your landlord and remind him of his promise, as someone else stated. Also offer to re-up your lease for one year (or more if you wish).

maybe but with a dog i doubt the landlord would want to take a chance i be happy to be allowed to have a dog so many landlord’s today are anti animals
if the landlord goes to raise the rent then I would bring up the age of the rug

Remind him of his promise and ask him to replace it.

well get him to sign something saying he is going to replace it…within a certain amount of time….if he doesn’t tell him you will….but at his cost..meaning save the receipts and then take off the rent.

Put your rent in escrow. That way you are making payments and it wont reflect on credit, but he doesnt get the money till the neccessary fixes have been completed

When a tenant requests to have carpets changed and the manager does not approve you write a letter and send it out to the owner with a confirmation that he did reveive the letter. In you letter be strong and to the point. Let him know that he has 30days to change the carperts and if does not you will do it, and take that amount out of the rent.

Remind your landlord of his agreement. He is responsible for maintaining everything that came with your apartment.
