I am moving and am wondering what is the best way to remove those indentations left in the carpet by the furniture.

You can use a steam cleaner and vacuum to get the fibers in the carpet to bounce back up.

Depends on the type of carpet, but I’ve had luck with placing an ice cube in the indentation. It will melt and loosen the packed carpet fibers, as it dries they stretch back out. Once dry, use your vacuum hose, or with the edger attachment, to lift the rest of the way.

My sisterinlaw rents apartments and there is zero problem in removing those indentations left as people move out.
The carpets are always cleaned for the new tennants using a steam method as required by our local code. The indentations left by the tennants leaving are easily removed by the carpet cleaners and not a trace of them remains.
If you are concerned about this it is not a problem and you will not be charged any fees or deductions from your deposit.
Call the rental office and they will confirm what I have written here.
