Do I Need To Wash Bathroom Rugs Before Using Them? Will It Stain The Floors If I Dont?
A while back i bought some high dollar rugs for the bathroom. They were yellow and stained the floors yellow. Well since then we have moved and now have nicer tiled floors and i dont want to stain the floors this time. the rugs are different and green. I have never had any bathroom rugs stain floors and i want to know how to prevent this from happening. If you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know. THANKS!!

just wash them once itll be fine after that its just like getting a new pair of jeans and wearing white shoes the blue of the jeans rub off on the shoes you should always wash something new before using it the dye still strong specially in a bath room where itll be wet and rub off on the floor be on the safe side and wash them first or itll ruin the floor agian

No you don’t have to and if you don’t it won’t stain, but if you want your bathroom to smell a certain way then you can.

You think in this day and age these things would not happen. Wash the rugs to be sure they won’t bleed on the floor. Also a rubber backing will help keep rugs in place and keep color off the floor. I can’t believe expensive rugs the color is not set in. Crazy ain’t it. Hope this helps.

I bought a red and white rug and it didn’t stain the floor, but when I washed it it stained the whole load pink! and the white parts of the rug are now almost as red as the rest of it. I would wash and dry it to be safe – if your floors are tile, you can bleach them (Lay paper towels on the stained area and soak with bleach, leave one hour and then pick up WITH GLOVES. The bleach turns the towels to mush.
You could also ask where you bought them if they are “Colorfast” – which means they won’t run on the floor or in the laundry.

Some fabrics have an excess amount of dye from the dyeing process. Rinse the fabric in cool water until the water runs clear, especially if you’re concerned about bleeding onto other fabrics. If the water never seems to run clear, the color isn’t fast and there isn’t any way to fix it. You can minimize the color loss by adding salt or vinegar to the water every time the article is laundered, but it will continue to fade.

i bet since they were yellow that when you got outa the tub or shower that when you got them wet that the die in the rugs bled onto the floor and stained them. i think that if you washed them a couple of times or picked them up after they got wet and had a chance for the die to get on the floors that this would happen so just keep an eye on them next time after you get outa the tub and you shouldnt have any problems.
