Have you considered wood or maybe the faux wood laminate planks? It would alleviate the problem of heavy traffic in the entry. I have a burnt orange in my living room and it really plays nicely off the maple colored woodwork. Then if you want an accent you can choose a contrasting entry rug.

Cream. It will nutrualize the orange so that the hallway (while orange) doesn’t seem unconventional. If the unconventional look is what you’re goin’ for, I say WINE (darkish red).
