Can You Use Water And Laundery Detergent To Wash The Carpet With A Carpet Cleaner?

Instead of using those expensive bottles of liquid carpet cleaner, can I just use water and laundery detergent (like Tide)? I’m going to rent one of those carpet cleaning machines from the local grocery store.

Yes that’s how we do our carpets and it works really well. Just not to much soap just enough to make a little sudsy!

I think you should not be having any problem with it as the carpet is a clothes and you are cleaning it.The vacuum will suck the tide and water away.
why don’t you spray test a small area before renting the machine.Spray some solution in an area and clean with a paper towel and see how it goes and then you can continue with the machine.
    Good Luck!

No you cannot. Too much sudsing action from the detergent which will remain in carpet. carpet will pick up dirt easy and smell.
You will also destroy the machine and charged to replace it.

google recipes for carpet cleaners or steam cleaners will find several. i know you can use half white vinegar and half water. works well and the smell goes away. everything smells fresh

It will cause a lot more suds and could harm the machine you’ll be renting. I’d buy the right product
