Blot the area with a clean, white cloth to absorb all the liquid you can. Blot from the outside of the stain in to avoid spreading the stain.
Step2Mix 1 teaspoon clear, mild liquid dish washing detergent with 1 cup lukewarm water.
Step3Sponge the area with the detergent solution. Blot again with a clean, white cloth.
Step4Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup lukewarm water.
Step5Sponge the area with the vinegar solution. Blot with a clean, white cloth.
Step6Sponge the area with clean water. Blot with a clean, white cloth.
Good luck, hope this works for you.

The problem with most of the solutions mentioned above is that whilst most of them will have an effect on the surface of the carpet, the stain will still be in the base, and at the slightest sign of moisture (even a humid day) the stain will wick back to the surface.
The only thorough solution is to use a carpet shampooer with a high quality carpet cleaning formula. These machines spray cleaning solution right into the carpet and then suck the stain right out.
Bissell machines are available from £80 upwards including sample cleaning formula, and although this may seem expensive for one stain, you then have a machine ready for the next time someone has a mishap.

Use a very hot water solution of OxiClean. Squirt the solution all over the stain. Wait a minute, then blot, blot, blot. If you have a steam cleaner, use that to suck the excess moisture out of the carpet in lieu of blotting.
Your stain will disappear.

Go to the section in your store where they rent the Rug Dr. Steam Cleaners and get a spray bottle of their Pet Stain Remover. It works well on coffee. Just follow the instructions. Good luck!
