I would suggest a lament flooring in the closet. Then when you are wanting to renovate the rest of the room you don't have to worry about having to redo the closet. That is what I did when I renovated my place. It's beautiful, and in the future, when I want to take out the carpet in the rest of the room, I don't have to worry about doing the closet. When it comes time to replace the carpet, just run a blade along the trim, cutting away the old carpet. Don't worry about the old carpet and pad left trapped below the new wall.
