Is It Ok To Steam Clean My Carpet Every Two Weeks?

I got a new Hoover steam cleaner and it works awesome! My carpet was so nasty and our house is only a year old. Will it harm my carpet to steam clean it every two weeks? I didn’t know if the moisture would harm it or anything. Thanks.

    NO! NO! NO!
The pile yarn is tufted into the primary backing. Then “latex” is applied and the secondary backing is adhered to it.
You may eventually destroy the latex in the backing.
Manufacturers do not recommend cleaning that often.
You should spot clean as often as needed for spills.
Light cleaning in heavy traffic areas.
Complete cleaning sould be sufficient 2-3 times per year.

That is too much it will break down the fibres and colour way to fast, just stick to good vaccuuming and clean it fall and winter. I had a carpet wool light beige for 28 years and I cleaned fall and spring and alot of people thought it was new. A good thing to use your steam cleaner with is use the attachments with just water and steam your mattresses, curtains and I even have friends that use like a Tobi, or iron.

I think steam cleaning your carpets more than once a year is overkill.
Its too risky that you’ll have mold form in the padding under the carpet.
Honestly, the best thing to do to prolong the life of your carpet is to vacuum often and always wear house shoes. I wear slippers or flipflops and insist that all other family members do as well. The oils from your feet is what probably is making dirt adhere to the fibers in the carpet. Make this modification and you should notice cleaner carpets.

OMG…. Steam cleaning is actually on of the worst things you can do to a carpet!!! water gets held down on the floor pad and wood causeing rot and Mold….
I NEVER steam clean a whole room only a very bad stain…. Using a professional service that uses a dry chemical is the best for your carpet… extends the life and dosn’t cause a rot and mold problem……
check with a local carpet dealer and ask their opionion on this subject as well…. I’m pretty sure that over 95% will say Dry Chem, over steam!!!!

Unless you have lots of kids and pets, your carpet should not get so dirty that it requires steam-cleaning so often.
Also, if the carpet does not dry fast enough, the moisture damages the flooring under the carpet.
