How Long Should I Wait Before Laying Carpet After Painting Skirting Board?
I am currently re-decorating a room with no carpet. I have been told that after painting the skirting board, I must leave anywhere between 3 and 14 days (depending on the source) before laying carpet as, if the paint is still ’soft’, it can be easily chipped.
I would rather not wait 2 weeks if it is not necessary, however I don’t want to chip the skirting board. Does anybody have any idea as to how long I should leave the painted skirting boards before laying the carpet?
Thanks!

30 days to let the paint cure but even w/ the carefullest of carpet laying the base board can still scratch up.. Just knowing that you MIGHT have to touch up the paint helps if it does get scratched.. Carpet has a tough backing and they do have to “run it up the wall a bit”GL

chipping the skirting board is down to how good and carefull you are when you lay the carpet, it doesnt really matter as long as the paint is dry….. and when you’ve finished you can always go round and patch up….. just take your time.
its what i’ve just done to my 2 bedrooms and it was fine.

the paint will be dry in 16 hours at the most. when the carpet is layed it will mark or scratch the skirting, even with the best of care.

we take the skirting board off when we are laying carpet this way you get a cleaner look and you can paint it and put it back and it will look beautiful

I don’t know myself, so I suggest you talk with the paint people where you bought the paint from!

Press an inconspicus area with your finger, if it leaves a print or feels slightly soft, then its not ready.
