You might try a medium to low pile textured carpet that has a tightly wound pile, for the price they offer the most comfort at the best quality . or maybe a cut and pile maybe another option- if you dont mind the patterns they do hold up well and have a soft feel, although not that thick theres alot availble at a good price and you can always(and should) use a upgraded pad to add the cozy feel. basicly you should be able to buy a comfy and durable carpet in a variety of colors for around $4 -$6 per sq ft (installed with minimal pad for that price).
