How Do You Sterilize Carpet After The Canine Parvovirus?
My puppy was diagnosed with Parvo. She has a pretty good chance of survival, but either way we are needing to sterilize the house. Everywhere I’ve seen says bleach. But what about on the carpet?

You can’t bleach the carpet or do anything to disinfect it that would be 100% certain of killing the virus. The risk is not so much from her getting reinfected since she will have immunity (especially if you follow up with vaccinations once she is completely well), but from infecting other dogs. Keep other dogs out of your home for 6 months (especially if unvaccinated) and take your shoes off before entering the house – keep shoes off the carpet. Also be aware and wash your hands before handling other people’s dogs for awhile.

short of ripping up the carpet?
You could try steam cleaning it.. you can also buy chemicals that contain parvocide. It may or may not discolor your carpet tho, unfortunantly.
Be aware, even if you disenfect the house, parvo can live in the ground for 6 months.. even in freezing temps. I would wait a long time before bringing another dog to the home.
Until your pup has completely recovered, limit where she has access to.. keep her in an area that can be easily disenfected.

Having your carpets professionally steam cleaned may help but the best thing would be to keep her away from your home for a month, which is how long it takes for the parvo virus to die off. Do you have any friends, family, or a neighbor who could keep her for a month? I would rather do that than take the chance of her getting infected again. Good luck!

You could try spraying Lysol. When my dog had parvo, they soaked us in lysol before leaving the vet’s office.
Good luck!
