If A Carpet Smells And Might Be Rotting, What Product Cleans Right Through The Carpet And Is Safe To Use?

I’m renting and can’t change the carpet, so I need more of a temporary fix. Would enzyme digesters work and do you recommend which I can get in the UK?
It seems a bit crazy, but would Milton fluid work, or how about Squirt-Eco?

It’s probably not your carpeting, but the padding underneath the carpeting. In that case, you’d have to replace the padding. The padding under carpeting soaks up everything- drink spills, animal pee, etc. Regardless if you shampoo the carpeting, you’re not doing anything for all of the smell, messes, dust, allergens that are trapped underneath in the padding.
I did see a vacuum cleaner demonstration one time that showed all of the carpet deoderizer that gets trapped underneath the carpet. Maybe you could put that on your carpet once a week & eventually it would be covered by the deoderizer?
    Also, have you used Febreeze?

That’s gross….you shouldn’t move into a place that has dirty rotten carpet. Ugh…..I don’t care what the situation is. They should change the carpet if they want you to live there. That’s their job. If they don’t change the carpet then they are not worthy of being your landlords.

    how about a lawyer?
you are living in a hazardous condition. your landlord should take care of that.
if they don’t, get a doctor to document that you have asthma (if you don’t yet, you will develop it) and sue them for health violations.

My daughter once opened 12 eggs onto her bedroom carpet. I tried everything! The final answer was to loosen the carpet at the wall, pull it back and take out the mat underneath that spot. That was where all the goo was hiding, and where the smell was. We cut out the bad mat, cleaned the subfloor and sprayed it down with lysol. Then we put new mat just under that area, pulled the old carpet over it and had it tacked back down by an installer. It was much less expensive than new carpet, and solved the problem very well.
My husband and I are landlords of 6 apartments in the US. If you lived in one of our apartments, we’d sure appreciate you letting us know your problem- and giving us the opportunity to do something about it. If he/she is not willing to replace your carpet, perhaps the mat would be enough. You may want to suggest it.
    Wish you well!

If it is rotting then it has to be thrown away. It might be hazardous to your health breathing in all that mold and fungal material.

A steam cleaner will deep clean the carpet, and get rid of nasty smells. The hot dry steam penetrates deep into the pile without wetting, which causes more damage. I certainly wouldn’t recommend using milton, as it is bleach based, and will destroy the carpet.Hire, or buy yourself a steam cleaner, they really work, and without harmful chemicals.
