Seagrass cannot really tolerate moisture or water without damage to the fibers. Hence, the best cleaner to use is either Chemdry or Resolve dry carpet cleaners. They can be found in the home improvement stores and are very easy to use. You simply spread the sawdust like cleaning granules on the area to be cleaned, agitate with a brush to remove stains, wait a few hours for the crystals to absorb the dirt or stain and vacuum it up when it is dry.

Take it outside onto a flat surface like a drive, and pour buckets of hot soapy water over it. Let it dry in the sun, other than that, all you can do is chuck it out.

Oh god they are awfull carpets, expensive, really rough, and not very nice to bare feet. We insisted that they were ripped out before we purchased our house even though they were newly fitted as they are more trouble than they are worth.
The best way to clean one would be with a stiff scrubbing brush and a hoover, repeate,
you can shampoo the carpet BUT you MUST ensure it is dried properly by repeatedly vaxing up any moisture..
