if youre not a renter, then you own it (or the bank does) its yours. do what you want. carpet whatever you want.

Do it up! Put in shag or crazy bowling alley carpet…it is your castle after all. They only dictate the exterior.

WHY NOT but go and ask them they might have a rule
for type ,color ect, i bet they say ok

As far as I know, what you do to the inside of a town house that you own is your business. If you want to make sure, however, you might check the home owner’s assoc. handbook to make sure. You would have to be able to replace the carpet at some point – but the HOA may dictate what type and color. I can’t imagine this, however. It’s your place – you hold the mortgage.

I would ask the landlord.
It would be good for them, and you.
I would pose it to them like this:
I was thinking, the carpet in the townhouse is in bad shape, i dont need to tell you this. I was thinking, If i replace it, would you be willing to give me 80% of the value of doing so off my rent?
so if your rent is 500 a month, and you spend 500 on carpet… ask for a $400 deduction
bad part: they will probably want to have some part in the color decision, no one wants shag carpet, or some neon pattern carpet to deal with once you move out.

They only dictate the exterior – if you are the owner you can do what you want to the interior.
