What Is The Easiest Way To Clean Carpet Glue From Concrete?
The indoor/outdoor carpet on my porch finally wore out, and I just had to tear it up (it was falling off on it’s own). But now I have all this old dried glue on my porch, and it looks like grinding it could take days! Any ideas? Any would be appreciated, thanks!

Also….here is a posting that someone left on a site where they did EXACTLY what you did and asked the same questions. I’m posting some of the answers given to her! Hope one of them help as well.
“This is a very common question on the forum. My suggestion for large areas is to get paint stripper, the citrus based kind, spread it on the floor and give it an hour. Then take a wide blade scraper and scrape it up into plastic bags and dispose. Wipe the residue off with paint thinner or laquer thinner. If the Citrus doesn’t seem strong enough, then go to methyl chlorate.
There are also cleaners available for old glue, but it takes a lot and is very smelly. Use lots of ventilation.”

Use a solvent, let it sit on the old glue for a hour, then start scraping, it is the best way.
Then after you get the glue all taken care of, stop and think about the porch.
Do you want to just put carpet back down or do you want to improve it by putting in a wooden floor, or maybe a deck over the whole porch, never have to scrape glue again if you never install a carpet.

I’m in the same boat, with my porch. So I hope you find an answer. I tried scrapers, to little avail. Not sure about using chemicals, but that may be the only answer.
I just painted mine with concrete paint, just to help disquise the mess.

If you know the type of glue that was used you can contact the manufacturer and ask for the best solvent. I’m sure they offer one. Short of that, I’m sure any type of solvent for glue will work. As a contractor or go to your local hardware store.

We had the same problem when we were re-doing our basement. We ended up using a regular chemical stripper and just pouring it over the gluey areas. Let sit til it softens up then it’s easily removed with a scraper.

I used this nasty chemical called Xylene from Home Depot. It smells awful and Im sure kills many brain cells, so Im not sure you should trust this answer.
