How Do I Remove Gum From My Carpet Without Using Solutions?

i have some gum on my carpet and i want to get rid of it without using all that fancy solutions. the gum is (please, if you have a weak stomach, don’t read ahead) probably 3 years old (it’s over near a corner, so i’ve really never noticed it) and it’s hard. i tried to get some of it off with a spatula, but it only did 1/2 of the job. please help me! and fast!

This is from my dear wifey, who is presently with-child and feeling under the weather. She recommends using ice to harden the gum before removing it. She also says that she’s had luck with simply scraping with a butter knife on the gum before applying anything wet. If no luck, there’s a product called ‘GooGone’ that works very well too. It is a little malodorous, but isn’t a harsh chemical solvent and will not fade the color or leave a stain of its own.

Put a zip lock bag with cubes of ice on top of the gum, wait about 30 minutes ,and then with a butter knife it should come off without ruin the carpet ,and no signs of the gum good luck.

It sounds like you may need to just cut the gum out with scissors.

Try freezing it with an ice cube and pick at when frozen.

Put an ice cube directly on the gum and let it sit until it makes the gum hard, then carefully, pull the gum off the carpet. Another trick is too place a white cotton towel directly over the gum, use a warm iron on the towel until the gum is softened and it will be absorbed into the cotton of the towel. I work for a carpet cleaning service and the best way we have found it the ice cube. With the iron method it might spread the gum if you aren’t careful but whatever you do, please do not plug or rub the carpet fibers no matter what you spill on the carpet.

i’ve always used ice to harden it up and then remove with a hard small-tooth, comb to preserve the fibers. or scissors if the carpet is plush

Some say freeze it with ice and then use a hammer on it (so, plastic bag with ice on top for 20 mins and then try the hammer and vaccuum) other say just try to cut the fibers. If it’s on the surface you maybe able to cut 1/2 way down and have it look ok.
    Peace!

Cut the piece of rug out with some sort of cutters and find some carpet the same color and replace it.
    Good as new!! :)

Oh. I went to answer this before I knew about how long the gum has been there. I heard that if you have a small patch of gum in the carpet, & you put an ice cube on it, that the gum hardens up, & becomes brittle, so you can break up the pieces to release them from the fibres of the carpet. But you said it has already become hard, so I am not sure that this idea will help. But you could give it a try.

I find ice works well hold it there long enough to freeze the gum
and then chip away it will ,Oh! but put the ice in a plastic baggie
so it will not get your carpet wet!!! or cut it out gently with
scissors which would you have there the gum or a little less
    carpet piling

Sounds like you are in a sticky situation! No pun intended. This is very easy. The best non-toxic gum remover is, “ICE”. Take a ice cube to the gum spot, set the ice cube on the gum and wait for it to melt slightly and it will start to freeze the gum and harden it making it very simple to remove it from the fibers of the carpet. Good luck I am sure you will be out of this “sticky”situation in no time!
