What Gets Smoke Smell Out Of Walls And Carpet?

One of our apartments caught on fire last night due to a tenant burning a cigarette in the bathroom. The toilet actually cracked enough that it put the fire out. The walls are damaged severely and the hall and other rooms stink of fire smoke. Does anyone have any ideas to get the smell out of the walls (besides Kills primer) and carpet?

Unfortunately you’d probably have to repaint the walls in the bathroom. Carpet, you should get a steam cleaner (if it’s not damaged by fire).
As for walls in the rest of the house, depends on what kind of paint. It’s very hard to get that smell out without heavy cleaning, but that might damage the paint if it’s matte. Gloss you might have a better time with.

Best to call insurance company and make a claim on this one. You can o-zone with an industrial size machine but first you need to get all burnt materials out. As for walls it depends on the depth of the char on replace or repair. carpet should be the last thing done and I would have a professional come and do it, explain your situation before scheduling to make sure they know what they are up agains. and yes you should use a primer on any structure that is not getting replaced to seal in the smell or as it warms up you will always have a residual smell in the apt.

Oust works very well….you can also put charcoal briquets around and they will absorb the odors…Though oust begins working immediately, after cleaning any curtains, etc…
