Serious Suggestions For What To Do With A Cat That Has Begun Peeing On Rugs?

My cat has begun peeing on the kitchen and bathroom rugs. I know that even after washing them that they still contain a trace of the smell and that the cat will continue peeing on them probably now. They are the type of rugs that have the rubber backing. Does anyone know if I get new rugs that don’t have the rubber backing if the cat will urinate on them also? I know cats tend to like the rugs with the rubber backing. Any serious suggestions on this type of thing will be welcome!

    This site REALLY helps:http://www.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of…
I have used nature’s miracle and other products and they do not work. Best things for me have been vinegar and the tips from the link above,
Also, be sure to get your cat checked for a Urinary Tract Infection!!! I was having these problems and thought my cat was just being a brat, but he had a serious infection that took 3 months to fight off! The cure: wet cat food (wellness brand)

Get Nature’s Miracle or another cleaner with enzymes and it will get rid of the source of the smell and the cat will be less likely to continue the behavior. Sometimes peeing somewhere other than the box is a sign of infection or other illness, so you might want to take him/her to the vet if it continues.

What gender is your cat, how old is it, and has it been fixed?
The answers to these questions will most likely be the answers to your problem.
Most indoor cats being to display these behaviors when they sexually mature…
Basically, your cats natural instinct is to mate, and since it cant, it is following the behaviors that have been passed down instincually to attract the opposite sex. My female kitten, Honey, started doing this at around 10 months old…before then she was an angel about going to the restroom in her litter box. We got her spayed and this seemed to stop her problem because she no longer was in “heat”.
Good luck with everything and i hope i have been helpful…if you update it and answer those questions then you will probably get more answers that will help you solve your problem.

If it is a male cat who has not been neutered, then that is a problem. They are spraying their scent and claiming their territory. Once they start I doubt if you can break him. We have had to get rid of cats that do that. Can’t live with the smell and you can never get it out.

well im not sure about the rug thing but you have to learn how to control your cat. well i have 2 cats and it started peeing on my rug so basically i trained it. i locked it in a cage for about 1 or 2 weeks till it became familiar and every time it pee’d on the rug i would put it back in the cage. my cat eventually started going to the cage to do its business.

There is a very good chance that you cat is sick. I once had a cat that started doing that. I ignored it for the most part and just cleaned up after her. It turned out that she was very ill. and she needed to go to a vet. I did not know that cats will start peeing on the carpet in front of me when they are sick. That is just one way that they let you know there is something wrong… My cat has a liver disease.. she had to be put down it was too late when i finally found out… Now I know..
