Has Anyone Used Baking Soda To Freshen Their Carpet?

I have an 8 month old baby and would like to freshen the carpet in my home without using harsh chemicals. My baby is crawling around now so that is the main reason I will not use carpet powder. If anyone has sprinkled baking soda on their carpets for this purpose please give me feedback before I try it. Thank you in advance!
